Bulk ITF-14 barcode generator

ITF-14 in bulk is a packaging hierarchy rather than a product list. One trade item usually needs several case codes — inner pack, case, pallet layer — and each of them is the same GTIN with a different indicator digit in front. That is what a batch of ITF-14 normally is: a handful of numbers per product, not a hundred unrelated ones.

Where this code earns its place in a batch

  • Case and pallet marking for a whole product range: ITF-14 is built for corrugated board, where ink spreads and a retail-grade symbol would blur into unreadability.
  • Warehouse receiving at volume — the code is read at a distance, off a moving pallet, by a fixed scanner, and its wide bars survive that where a dense symbol does not.
  • Runs that must express packaging levels rather than products: the indicator digit turns one GTIN into inner pack, case and layer without inventing new numbers.

Preparing the list

  • Build each row as indicator digit plus your GTIN-13, and let the fourteenth digit be computed: the indicator is 1 to 8 for packaging levels and 9 for variable measure.
  • Keep the indicator meaningful across the whole range — if 1 means a case of twelve for one product, it should not mean a case of twenty-four for the next.
  • Plan the bearer bars before printing: ITF-14 on corrugated needs the frame around the symbol, and it is part of the print, not of the value.

What goes wrong in a batch

  • Reusing the indicator digit as a sequence counter: it describes the packaging level, and a batch that counts 1, 2, 3 through it claims three different levels of the same box.
  • Printing case codes at product-label module width: ITF-14 goes on corrugated board, which absorbs ink and needs a wider module than a paper label.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the batch have so few rows per product?
Because ITF-14 describes packaging levels, and most products have two or three. A run of a hundred rows normally means a hundred products at one level, not one product at a hundred levels.
Can I generate case codes without the product GTIN?
No, and it is not a limitation of the generator. The fourteen digits are the indicator plus the GTIN of the item inside plus a check digit, so the case code cannot exist before the product number does.
